Work til you drop

Work til you drop

Unfettered capitalism wrote an article about how you should slave away at an unfulfilling job for more years.

Honestly, the first comment nails it: as long as you are getting out and being social, have interesting things to do with your brain (hobbies and interests), eat well and get a reasonable amount of exercise, I don’t see this being a problem. I think we need to explore more the deepening loneliness of our current culture and why this seems to affect men more acutely. The solution shouldn’t be: work more! The solution should be: how do we build community and maintain ourselves mentally and physically into our old age?

My #DIETY am I tired of being asked to leave a review!

I went to dinner with friends and was asked three days in a row to leave a review.

I ordered takeout online for the kids and received two emails in less than 24 hours asking me to leave a review.

The most egregious ask of all has to be the review I was asked to write about my voluntary participation in a PLS study at the hospital. I have been asked no less than THREE times to answer this questionnaire. What, praytell, would I be reviewing? My own ability to do the 6 minute walk test? How many sit-to-stands I can do? It’s out of control.

I also know that anything less than 5 stars may as well be a failing grade for corporations but how did we even get here? The black-and-white nature of our “winner takes it all” culture has sucked all of the nuance out of everything.

[Don’t even get me started about the server who kept apologizing for their crappy service (and it was mediocre), then spinning the point-of-sale machine towards me with the “20% tip” option pre-chosen. I never tip less than that anyway but I was tempted to finagle the machine back to a 0% after that stunt]

Also, get off my lawn.
